General Sports Rehabilitation

Therapeutic Exercise:

  • Semi-Recumbent Cycle and Lower Body Cycle - un-weighted leg strengthening
  • Treadmill - used forward, backward and lateral with or without incline.
  • Balance System - advanced machine that tests patients' balance (static and/or dynamic), also used for skilled training to correct deficits (fall prevention).
  • System 3 - isokinetic unit for testing and training in multiple peripheral joints
  • Stairmaster - weighted leg strengthening
  • Semi-Recumbent Leg Press
  • Cable Column - used for multiple joint motions with resistance
  • Upper Body Cycle - un-weighted arm strengthening

Mobilization:

  • Joint (peripheral, spinal) - glides, slides, rolls, longitudinal traction, McKenzie
  • Soft Tissue Massage - Trigger Point release and myofascial techniques
  • Manual traction - in the cervical spine with occipital release

NMR:

  • PNF (Proprioceptive Neuromuscular Facilitation) - defined as a system for promoting the response of neuromuscular mechanisms by stimulating the proprioceptors. Used to facilitate or enhance a muscle contraction using stretch techniques and verbal cueing.
  • Functional Electric Stimulation - utilizing electrical stimulation to facilitate or enhance a muscle contraction.
  • Patellofemoral taping - tape used to re-educate the muscles for proper tracking of the knee cap and pain reduction.

Gait Training:

  • Parallel bars, cones, stairs, treadmill - all utilized equipment to enhance walking and balance skills.

Compression therapies:

  • Lympha press - sequential compression unit used to reduce swelling, arm and leg
  • Soft Tissue Massage - facilitates swelling reduction with manual skills

Modalities:

  • Ultrasound - uses thermal and non-thermal effects to treat muscles and joints.
  • Phonophoresis - ultrasound treatment that delivers medication to tissues.
  • Electrical Stimulation - uses electrical impulses to affect nerve conduction and reduce pain.
  • Iontophoresis - electrical stimulation that delivers medication to tissues.

Whirlpool

  • Used for foot, ankle and hand patients to increase motion or decrease pain.
